Stage 6: Chaussin -> Poncin.

3 september 2014 - Poncin, Frankrijk

Stage 6: Chaussin -> Poncin.

After 2 days of relatively easy tracks, today we are going to have a bit more climbing again. The track still goes through the “wild”, not too many cities / villages to pass. Our destination Poncin is laying just a bit south of Bourge-en-Bresse. They expect us in a chalet again, so we are curious about the shape of that house.

By the way, the chalet of tonight was actually not too bad. I would give it an 8 if I would hire it for a long-stay vacation, looking for a tent to hire.

We will depart slightly earlier than the 2 past days. The track length officially is 157 km, so with some detours for like road constructions, Cycling lanes where Rares cannot come with the Vivaro.

We posted a small video yesterday, the footage came from my smartphone, today we plan to capture some video’s from the car and from the bike with the action camera. Editing the video during the tour is hardly possible. You would not believe but we simply have not the time to manage it, so we promise that when we are back home, we will do our utmost best to get that done and posted.

Almost everybody of the team woke up in the meantime, so we now are preparing our breakfast.

Keys from the previous Chalet.

On our route to Chaussin, we experienced, that we did not leave the key in the “key-returnal-box-, at the reception of the camping. We tried to phone the reception, but an answering machine was telling us a lot of things in French. From which we did not get any clue of it. So if your read this, mrs. Lady at the reception of Camping de Villegusien-le-Lac, I promise that we will try to send the keys by post to you, so please do not charge us for another 2 days for renting that chalet!

The Rue de Jupiler Froix.

Yeah, I have to mention a specific event  into the blog. Somewhere during the ride on the 5th Stage. Before I start to explain what happened etc… you must know, that the following rules are very important to notice and to be followed by each individual of the team:

If a woman and/or a GPS devices is talking, or commanding, ones must not interrupt, nor argue. They are always right.

If there are more than 1 GPS device in a cycling group, then the biker in the front is in commend and stays in command.

It  is written in the route book, reference: “The Bike Event “50 years CSi”, page 3, how GPS devices (if participant bring any with them) should be set-up according the applicable rules.

So now what happened. After the command: “First to the right”, one of the bikers thought that he had found a better route on his (whatever brand, whatever type GPS) thing, and directed the entire group in the wrong direction. O.k. I have to admit, that happens sometimes. But. And now the real thing is coming. Awaiting the lost cheeps on the path where they were expected to come from, when you look onto a real GPS device, someone started arguing, that the right course had been followed and MY GSP would have been wrong. Can you imagine? Of which we have put a bet, that the course for sure was abandoned. The bet was a box of Jupiler, or alternatively,  Hoegaarden bear.

To remind the guy on his mist step, a huge sign was made on the chalet telling the name of the correct street: “Rue de la Jupiler froix”. We are still awaiting the payment.

Our 1st Coffee stop today was at a nice restaurant along the route. Wonderfull  Cappuccino and Arnold went to the Boulangerie, to get something sweet to have with the coffee.

After we left, we did another like 60 km, before we took the second stop. On a piece of farmer land, at the boarder of the city Bourge-en-Bress. Our Chef de Cuisine, cooked us some pancakes. A passing pedestrian saw us and asked:  What’s up? What  are you doing as a group, with a car from CSi. Are you police officers?

After lunch, we had to finish the last part of the stage. Tough job, with that amount of pancakes. We grabbed our bikes, to go. And then a very suspicious thing appeared to have had happened. Both tires of the mountain bike were flat. Not just a bit flat. No. TOTALLY flat. No air or whatsoever in the tube. So we changed tires. Very suspicious. Sabotage?? By who? We’ll keep an eye on it.

Arriving at the camping at approx.. 17:00. We could have been earlier, but we took our time to find the camping, since the last 2.5 km was mentioned for bikes only. Real bikes only. By some reason, it appeared to be a MTB lane.

After we had a beer, we went into the swimming pool. Started to organise everything as usual and prepare the dinner.

Tomorrow will be stage 7, we will be heading to Grenoble!.

See you all there!
